San Luis Obispo Jewish Film Festival JCCSLO is the host of the annual San Luis Obispo Jewish Film Festival, which takes place each January. Our first festival was at the Palm Theatre, and was a huge success. We enjoyed a weekend together with many filmmakers, and experienced powerful films. Many of the shows were sold out, as was the opening night Filmmakers Dinner. We look forward to continued success in the years to come.
The Bridge and Community Spiritual Garden Project JCCSLO worked with a group of Cal Poly seniors to design a bridge and spiritual garden on the land at 875 Laureate Lane. The JCCSLO has long envisionsed building a community garden on its land. The Cal Poly team was comprised of Civil Engineering students designing the bridge, a Landscape Architect student designing the garden, and an Architectural Engineering student overseeing the overall aesthetic of the project.
JCCSLO concerts Music of all genres is beauty, art, and culture. JCCSLO has hosted a number of special concerts with Jewish influence, or Jewish artists performing. Some of the concerts included Jewish and Arab musicians performing together, or non-Jewish musicians playing klezmer tunes. Take a look here.
JCCSLO Men's Retreat Each year a large group of area Jewish men get together to go camping in Big Sur.
Jewish SLO Archive Project JCCSLO and the San Luis Obispo Historical Museum are working together to digitize an online archive of San Luis Obipso's Jewish history. The first phase is collecting data and recording oral histories; the second will be transferring the information to an online portal as a part of the JCCSLO website. The project may result in an exhibit at the Historical Museum and all data gathered will be available for research at the museum.
