Jewish Family Services is a program of the Jewish Community Center of SLO. We support people of all backgrounds and faiths with dignity, respect, & care.

Gas Card Assistance Program ⛽
(Individuals Apply Directly)

Jewish Family Services (JFS) offers limited gas card assistance for individuals in San Luis Obispo County who need help with transportation costs. This program is open to individuals directly — no case worker is required.
Submitting the online form is the only way to request gas card assistance.
Please DO NOT CALL OR EMAIL.
  • Requests are reviewed and processed in the order they are received based on the online form only.  We have extremely limited part-time staff and cannot currently process requests by phone or email.
  • Gas card availability is limited and requests are reviewed as funding allows. We go down the list in order of receipt, and are currently working on requests from several months back.
  • If you or your case worker applied for assistance in 2025, there is no need to re-apply. Rest assured that we will be in touch once funding becomes available.

1) ENSURE YOU QUALIFY

  • You must be a resident of San Luis Obispo County or Northern Santa Barbara County (from San Miguel to Santa Maria).
  • You must have a CURRENT drivers license, vehicle registration and car insurance in place to receive gas from us.
  • You must have exhausted all other resources already.
  • You must not have received any other assistance from the JFS program within the last 365 days.

2) FILL OUT THE GAS REQUEST FORM

GAS CARD APPLICATION
The form will prompt you to provide your name, contact information, a brief explanation of your need, and your drivers license and license plate number.
  • DRIVERS LICENSE MUST BE CURRENT.
  • VEHICLE REGISTRATION MUST BE CURRENT.
  • CAR INSURANCE MUST BE CURRENT.
There are no exceptions to these critera and we will need to validate documents with photos before approving gas credits.

3) WAIT TO HEAR FROM US.

OUR JFS ADMINISTRATOR WILL REACH OUT IF FUNDS ARE AVAILABLE.
  • Requests are reviewed in the order they are received and funding is extremely limited at this time.
  • If approved, we will follow up to view copies of your Drivers license, vehicle registration and insurance.
  • If everything is up-to-date, we will let you know the name of our partner gas station in the city of San Luis Obispo. You will go to the checkout and show your license to fill up with up to $50 of gas. We do not have physical cards to distribute.
  • Additionally, you must get gas within the month you are approved for. Our grants work on a monthly basis and we need to be able to do the proper accounting in that time period.

NEED OTHER TYPES OF HELP?

See Our Page with Additional Resources
If you need assistance with rent, food, or other essential needs, please reach out to your case worker regarding our micro-grant program. Please note that if you obtain gas assistance, you will be ineligible for other types of support until 1 year from your gas award.
Don't have a caseworker?  📞 Dial 211 or visit www.211slo.org to connect with local resources. Stay on the line -- it may take awhile but you will get through.
