As we navigate these challenging times together, it’s important to remember the values that unite us as a Jewish community and to remember the strength and compassion that our community embodies. This winter, in the spirit of Tikkun Olam (repairing the world) and tzedakah (charity), we have a wonderful opportunity to once again come together to meaningfully impact the lives of those in our community who are struggling. We invite you to join us in a collective effort to feed the unhoused and those facing food insecurity. The SLO Community Holiday Feast (previously called Christmas Dinner for the Homeless) will take place on December 25th at the Odd Fellow’s Hall in downtown SLO. This will be the 28th year that our Jewish community has been the backbone of this event. The Holiday Feast is used to provide new warm winter clothing and sleeping bags to those who are unsheltered to help them survive our cold wet winters. Together, we can make a difference that transcends religious boundaries and brings hope to those who need it most. To assist with the cooking, work at the event, make a donation, or just get more information, please visit our website at SLOcommunitycares.org Thank you in advance for your generosity and ongoing support! I wish you all a happy and healthy new year! Am Yisrael Chai! |
In a recent community-wide survey, almost 200 households in San Luis Obispo and Northern Santa Barbara counties told us they warmly view JCC programs. By connecting and representing all Jewish people - whether or not they are affiliated to the various Jewish institutions in the region – these programs are valued, appreciated, and enjoyed.
However, their future is not guaranteed. Donations are valuable, but unpredictable. Like all non-profits, the JCC has a budget which requires predictable income. After much consideration, the Board of Directors is initiating an annual “JCC Supporter Contribution” beginning September 1st, 2023. This new lifeline will create a reliable structure for all the programs and services you’ve come to expect. A financially secure JCC benefits everyone! |
Mission Statement
The JCC-Federation of SLO seeks to foster a united community on the Central Coast through programs and services offering educational, social and recreational activities based on Jewish principles. We strive to "Build community locally, connecting globally."
What do we do?
We serve as the focal point of Jewish community life in San Luis Obispo County. We are a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization enriching life in the area and connecting people of all backgrounds, ages, and religions.
The JCC-Federation is a part of the Jewish Federations of North America, a global network of communities. Locally, we are members of the SLO Chamber of Commerce, SPOKES, and the Downtown Association, along with being a partner (through our social service agency, Jewish Family Services of SLO) with Transitions-Mental Health Association. The JCC-Federation is also served by the Hebrew Free Loan Association of San Francisco, a nonprofit that provides interest-free loans to help Jewish individuals in Northern California (including San Luis Obispo) overcome financial challenges and pursue life dreams.
Our 2,300+ member-based organization is led by its Board of Directors, Jewish Family Services Volunteer Intake Coordinator, JCC-Federation Manager, committees and volunteers. Please contact us if you are interested in becoming more involved by donating your time, support, or expertise at [email protected].
