Join our Calling Callers Program today as a Volunteer or Recipient!
Caring Callers Update - October 2020
JFS currently has 12 volunteers in weekly or bi-weekly contact with 9 recipients. Feedback from both sides of these relationships are positive. People receiving the calls feel more connected with the community, especially while making adjustments to life during a pandemic. Volunteers report a sense of satisfaction extending a smiling voice to individuals who are grateful to make a new acquaintance or friend.
We are currently looking for CALL RECIPIENTS and VOLUNTEERS to help!
Are you looking to help the local SLO community...or make a connection with someone in the community? Would you like to receive periodic phone calls from a friendly volunteer OR be that volunteer?
The situation with COVID-19 has affected all of us. We’ve sheltered in place, worn masks when venturing outside our homes and generally led cloistered lives for the past few months. However, for some of our neighbors, that sort of seclusion only intensified their existing feelings of isolation. Whatever the personal circumstances, today’s stressful conditions place an extra burden on many of us. But there is a way to help!
Jewish Family Services has developed a program, Caring Callers. We are matching volunteers, the Caring Callers, with people who indicated they’d appreciate an occasional conversation by phone from a volunteer. Something as simple as asking “how are you” or “tell me about your week” can be very beneficial to a person who feels closed off from most activities beyond their front door. It’s the essence of Tikkun Olam!
And, of course, if you know of someone who might value such a periodic call from someone in the community, please let us know. There’s a special familiarity when one person reaches out to another, even if they begin as strangers.
If you’re interested or want more information, please contact us below! You CAN make a difference!
